"Carnival!": Contemporary piece from musical theater in the style of the show or a selection from "Carnival!" - Be prepared to perform a monologue or read from the script. Engel has already been cast (2 AEA and 1 non-AEA) **************************************** AVAILABLE ROLES/DESCRIPTIONS: "Carnival!" by Bob Merrill and Michael Stewart directed by Eric C. Engel / Musical Directer - Todd Gordon Lili: A young girl (18-20). Orphaned. Optimistic and impressionable. She is, at first, infatuated with Marco the Magician, but over the course of the drama becomes conflicted over her feelings for Paul. Paul: The puppeteer. A ex-professional dancer and slightly disabled war veteran. On the surface: mad at the word and unable to reach out to others. Underneath, all of the mischievous, sensitive and fun-loving characteristics of the puppets he has created. Marco: A charismatic Magician. A lady magnet. Underneath his playboy lifestyle, someone who cares about Rosalie and interested in protecting Lili. Rosalie: A still-beautiful but past-her-prime show-girl. Marco's mistress and Magician's assistant. Deeply in love with Marco. Hot-tempered. Jocquot: The assistant puppeteer. Paul’s best friend and sometimes voice of reason. Gentle, level and caring. A true lover of carnival life whose dream is to play the Paris circuit once again. B.F. Schlegel: The grumpy ringmaster of "Cirque de Paris". MALE Ensemble - 4 to 6 Performers of Various Ages to be cast as: Grobert, the sleazy souvenir peddler; Dr. Glass, Rosalie’s wealthy veterinarian boyfriend; the Roustabouts who set up the carnival elements; and other Carnival characters. WOMEN Ensemble - 2 to 4 Performers of Various Ages to be cast as: Siamese twins, Gladys and Gloria Zuwicki; Greta Schlegel, B.F. Schlegel's spoiled, pampered daughter; and Princess Olga, a seductive snake-charming mistress. ************************************* "Master Harold and the Boys" by Athol Fugard directed by Benny Ambush Hally: 17-year old white South African teenager and son of the owners of a Port Elizabeth Tea Room; rebellious, sharply moody, opinionated, unconsciously swimming in white privilege; an atheist; precocious, clever and smart; deeply troubled by and conflicted about his drunken crippled Dad's behavior. Intellectually curious but undisciplined. Tempted by Sam's vision of a world without collision. Willie Malopo: 30-45 years old Black South African waiter who is uneducated poor black laborer; a follower of Sam; a worrier; a jokester; beats his women; ballroom dances poorly; impatient; masks his deep vulnerable feelings with humor; initiates reenactments; cleans, polishes, washes, tidies up; re-thinks his relationship with Hilda by play's end - transforms The role of Sam is cast with an AEA member. *************************************** "Crimes of the Heart" by Beth Henley directed by Carmel O'Reilly PLEASE NOTE: The role of Lenny McGrath has already been cast (AEA). Chick Boyle: The sister's cousin, a drama queen,flamboyant, slightly vulgar, into everyone’s business, late 20's to mid 40's Meg Mc Grath: The middle sister, fun-loving, wild, artistic with a touch of sadness about her, unbalanced, early 20's to mid 30's. Babe McGrath: The youngest sister, angelic, volatile, strong-willed, pretty, late teens to 20's. Doc Porter: Meg's old boyfriend, attrative, worn, with a slight limp, sesitive, seductive, early 20's to early 40's. Barnett Lloyd: Babe's lawyer, fanatically intelectual, uses sheer will to hide his feelings, early 20's to mid 30's.
